After the great raids
By Masud III's reign the Ghaznavids had lost Khorasan to the Seljuqs and their centre of gravity had shifted toward Punjab. Revenue came increasingly from India, and the coinage reflects that reorientation.
The dynasty remained wealthy and culturally productive; the palace at Ghazna and its Persian-verse inscription date from this reign.
Coinage
Ghaznavid gold and silver of the period follow Islamic epigraphic conventions, with some issues bilingual for Indian circulation. Strike quality is generally good.
The Ghurid conquest of 1151 destroyed Ghazna, and the dynasty ended in 1186, making Masud III's issues part of the late but stable phase of the series.
