The Constitutional Revolution
Faced with protest over foreign concessions, tariff policy and Belgian customs administration, Mozaffar al-Din granted a constitution and convened the first Majlis in October 1906, dying days after signing the fundamental law.
His reign also brought the first Iranian cinema, the first cars and the oil concession to William Knox D'Arcy — the agreement out of which the entire twentieth-century politics of Iranian oil grew.
Late Qajar coinage
Coinage by this point is fully machine-struck at Tehran on European presses, with a lion-and-sun reverse, Persian date and clean milled edges — technically modern money for a state under severe financial strain.
Silver krans and 2-kran pieces are common and inexpensive; gold tomans of the reign are the collectable end, and full-strike examples with clear dates are worth seeking.
